ILLINOIS COUPLE WIN $100,000 POWERBALL PRIZE

An Illinois couple discovered just two days before Christmas that one of their Powerball tickets was worth $100,000. Sanfred and Mildred Rantanen of Staunton, Ill., purchased the ticket for the Dec. 4 drawing, but they didn’t check their tickets until they bought more two days before Christmas. "It was a wonderful Christmas present," said Sanfred Rantanen. "It was the best I ever had." Rantanen purchased his winning ticket at Fisca Oil, 14700 Highway 67 North in West Alton. He used a combination of birthdays and the number of years the couple has been married to select the winning numbers. The numbers drawn that night were: 5, 22, 25, 36 and 38. Rantanen, who retired from the Ford Motor Company in Hazelwood nearly three years ago, said he and his wife plan to use some of the money to buy a new car, "a Ford product."
