Polk Woman Cruisin' After Winning $50,000 Tax Paid

Story Photo A couple from Polk will be cruisin’ after matching all five numbers in the Missouri Lottery’s SHOW ME 5 Paydown drawing on Jan. 28. Janet Stalker, 42, said she has always wanted to take a cruise, and now she just might do that. Stalker, who works for a title insurance company, said she bought her winning ticket the day of the drawing at Jump Stop, 328 E. Broadway in Bolivar. She used numbers from her family’s birthdays to pick her winning combination. The winning numbers were: 4, 10, 11, 12 and 18. In addition to taking a cruise, Stalker and her husband, Roy, plan to pay off bills and buy a new mobile home with the prize money. To date, 67 players have matched all five numbers drawn to win $50,000 tax paid in SHOW ME 5 Paydown since the game began Nov. 6, 2000. * The Missouri Lottery will pay 25 percent federal and 4 percent state withholding taxes for the top prize based on it’s value. Depending on personal income, winners may owe additional taxes for the prize, or they may be entitled to a refund. Total value of the top prize is $70,422.55. After withholding, winners will receive $50,000. If more than 14 players match the five winning numbers in a single drawing, $1 million will be divided equally among the number of winning tickets.
