Illinois Woman Wins $50,000 Tax Paid

Story Photo A Dupo, Ill., woman is $50,000 richer after matching all five numbers in the Missouri Lottery’s SHOW ME 5 Paydown drawing on Jan. 14. Laura Bay, 66, said her brother bought her winning ticket for her at Convenient Food, 10201 Highway 21 in Hillsboro. She used some birthdays and some random numbers to pick the lucky combination: 7, 20, 29, 33 and 37. "It couldn’t have come at a better time," she said. Bay and her husband, Leroy, plan to use the $50,000 tax paid* prize to pay off credit cards and find a smaller place to live. The prize money will also help pay some of Leroy’s medical expenses. To date, 66 players have matched all five numbers drawn to win $50,000 tax paid in SHOW ME 5 Paydown since the game began Nov. 6, 2000. * The Missouri Lottery will pay 25 percent federal and 4 percent state withholding taxes for the top prize based on it’s value. Depending on personal income, winners may owe additional taxes for the prize, or they may be entitled to a refund. Total value of the top prize is $70,422.55. After withholding, winners will receive $50,000. If more than 14 players match the five winning numbers in a single drawing, $1 million will be divided equally among the number of winning tickets.
