Independence Woman Uncovers $25,000 Playing Bingo

Story Photo A retiree from Independence has an extra $25,000 to ring in the New Year after playing the Missouri Lottery’s "Diamond Bingo" Scratchers game on Dec. 30. Thelma Shull, 74, said she plans to pay off her credit cards and help her two daughters. "I’m going to plan a trip in a couple of months," she said. "I have a sister in Vegas, a sister in California and a son in California, so I will go visit them." Shull purchased her winning ticket at Apple Market, 4300 Blue Ridge Blvd. in Kansas City, when she stopped to buy Powerball tickets for the Dec. 31 drawing. She only bought one of the "Diamond Bingo" tickets, and it turned out to be worth $25,000. "Diamond Bingo," a $2 Scratchers game, officially went on sale Dec. 24.
