Higbee Man Wins $10,000 On Christmas Eve

Story Photo A factory worker from Higbee will be keeping his cool this summer after he won $10,000 playing the Missouri Lottery’s "$100,000 Vegas Money" Scratchers game. Dan Whisenand, 35, said he and his wife, Sharon, plan to use the prize money to install central heating and air conditioning into their home.

Whisenand said he stopped at Can Am Quick Stop, 1730 S. Morley in Moberly, to buy Lottery tickets on Christmas Eve. He bought one Scratchers ticket and won $50. He redeemed the winning ticket and bought one $2 ticket and one $5 "$100,000 Vegas Money" Scratchers ticket. He scratched off the $2 ticket and won $10, and the $5 ticket was worth $10,000.

"I was with my brother, and he added it up twice after I added it up," Whisenand said. "I called my wife, and she didn’t believe me at first."

Whisenand said that his wife didn’t believe him until she had spoken by phone with the store clerk, who sold the winning ticket.

"$100,000 Vegas Money" officially went on sale Aug. 23.
