Winning Crossword Ticket Helps Nevada Canine
A dachshund in Nevada is glad his owner "scratches" after she uncovered a $50,000 top prize in the Missouri Lottery’s "Crossword" Scratchers game. May Hutchison, 52, of Nevada said her young dachshund, K.C., had a slipped disk, and they were trying to treat her without the expense of surgery. But on Nov. 23, when she bought one "Crossword" instant ticket and it turned out to be worth $50,000, the first thing she thought of was taking care of K.C.’s back.
"It (the win) couldn’t have come at a better time," she said.
Hutchison purchased her $3 winning ticket at Cash and Dash West, 1502 W. Austin in Nevada, when she stopped in to buy a Coke. She and her husband, Don, first thought she had matched 10 words to win $5,000, but after going back to the store and talking with a clerk, they realized the prize was worth $50,000.
In addition to funding K.C.’s back surgery, the couple plan to use some of their winnings to buy new flooring for their kitchen.
The Missouri Lottery’s $3 "Crossword" game officially started Sept. 26.
