Independence Couple Scratch Off $100,000

Story Photo An Independence couple is celebrating the holidays early after they uncovered a $100,000 prize on a Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket. Edward "Ed" Slater, 73, said his wife, Phyllis, purchased one ticket from the "Monte Carlo" Scratchers game on Nov. 30, when she stopped in 7-Eleven, 17801 E. 24 Highway in Independence. She scratched the latex off at the store and found out that the ticket was worth the top prize of $100,000. "We’ll pay off bills and buy a new washer and dryer," said Ed Slater. Slater also said it will help pay for Christmas presents for his family, which includes two grown children, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. "Monte Carlo," a $5 Scratchers game, officially went on sale March 1.
