Story Photo A husband and wife from Monroe City are sharing a $50,000 prize after buying a Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket worth $50,000. Steve Harn said he bought four tickets from the $3 "Crossword" game on Nov. 4, when he stopped in Buckman’s Convenience Store in Monroe City. He scratched two of the tickets, and they were non-winners. Before he went to bed, he left the remaining two tickets for his wife, Janet McElroy. Janet played the two tickets and discovered the second one was worth $50,000. The couple said they plan to each keep a couple thousand aside each to "do what we (they) want," and the rest they will put in the bank for now. McElroy is the assistant vice president for Perry State Bank in Monroe City, and Harn works in maintenance at Intermet, a dye-cast making company. The Missouri Lottery’s $3 "Crossword" game officially started Sept. 26.
