KAHOKA WOMAN UNCOVERS $20,000 IN WEE HOURS

Story Photo A Kahoka woman got a pleasant surprise at 4:30 Wednesday morning when she and a friend stopped in Ayerco in Kahoka on their way to work and she ended up winning a $20,000 top prize on a Missouri Lottery "Monster Money" Scratchers ticket. Terri Jones, 37, said she plans to use the money to paint her house, donate some money to her church and maybe buy a new stove. "The guy in front of us won (some prizes)," said Phyllis Hurt, Jones’ friend who was with her at the time of her purchase. "She always says that all she ever gets is a free ticket. You can imagine how surprised she was when she saw that (winning ticket)." Hurt explained that the two stop at Ayerco each morning to buy sodas, gas, Lottery tickets and other items on their way to work in Iowa. Jones, who is the mother of two children, and her friend, Hurt, are both employed at Hawk Eye Steel in Houghton, Iowa. The Missouri Lottery’s $2 "Monster Money" Halloween-theme game officially started Sept. 13.
