EAGLE ROCK MAN ADDS $50,000 TO RETIREMENT FUND

Story Photo A 63-year-old Eagle Rock contractor will have an easier time retiring this year after winning $50,000 tax paid* in a Missouri Lottery game.   Jake "Jerry" Burgess said he was planning to retire this year, so he will put the money in the bank for the future.

Burgess won the prize in the Sept. 2 drawing of the SHOW ME 5 Paydown game.   He used Quick Pick to select his winning numbers.  They were:  11, 12, 18, 36 and 39.

Burgess purchased the SHOW ME 5 Paydown ticket on Sept. 2 at L & L Stores in Eagle Rock, when he stopped to buy $5 worth of Scratchers tickets for his wife.   Since he had $5 left, he decided to buy $5 worth of SHOW ME 5 Paydown tickets.

To date, 61 players have matched all five numbers drawn to win $50,000 tax paid in SHOW ME 5 Paydown since the game began Nov. 6, 2000.

*   The Missouri Lottery will pay 25 percent federal and 4 percent state withholding taxes for the top prize based on it’s value.  Depending on personal income, winners may owe additional taxes for the prize, or they may be entitled to a refund.  Total value of the top prize is $70,422.55.  After withholding, winners will receive $50,000.  If more than 14 players match the five winning numbers in a single drawing, $1 million will be divided equally among the number of winning tickets.
