Brotherly Loves Brings Washburn Man $100,000 Windfall

Making a trip to a local convenience store for his brother paid off to the tune of $100,000 for a Washburn man. Nathan Butts said his brother asked him to pick up “a pack of smokes” for him on May 21. So he headed to Murphy Oil USA, 1201 Old Exeter Road, in Cassville. While there, he also bought one $5 Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket for himself, a ticket from the “Fat Wallet” Scratchers game.

“I about lost it,” Butts said, explaining how he scratched the ticket and discovered he won one of the game’s top prizes while sitting in his truck in the parking lot.

Butts said he went back in the store and told the clerk who sold him the ticket that he would be back to “give her a tip.”

Butts, who works for the City of Washburn, said he plans to use the prize money to pay off the truck he bought recently, along with helping his brother.

“We’ve gotten pretty close over the years,” he said.
He also plans to buy a new cellphone and put the rest into savings.

“Fat Wallet” is a $5 Scratchers game that started April 30. More than $9 million in prizes remain in the game, including three more top prizes of $100,000.
