Columbia Resident Becomes Millionaire with Newest $30 Game

For one Columbia resident, May 4 will forever be remembered as the day he became a Missouri Lottery millionaire.

While visiting Hy-Vee Gas, 3120 W. Broadway in Columbia, Dario Laikert purchased a few of the Lottery’s $30 games, including the new “$300 Million Cash Explosion®” ticket.

Laikert said that he played his tickets while at Hy-Vee Gas, and recalled the moment he realized he had won a $1 million prize.

“I matched number 11, and the prize said $1 million,” recalled Laikert. “I won $50 on one of the other tickets. I cashed that one there, but I held up the other ticket to the clerk and said, ‘This one is coming with me.’”

The Columbia resident said he promptly informed his wife of their windfall, even though she was slow to accept the reality of the win.

“She still doesn’t really believe it’s happening, but she is seeking financial advice and shopping for a new house,” laughed Laikert.

Although the largest, the $1 million prize isn’t Laikert’s first Lottery win.

“I’m a truck driver, so I buy tickets from all over. I’ve won a couple of $1,000 prizes before and a $4,000 one, too,” said Laikert.

Introduced on April 30, “$300 Million Cash Explosion” is the second $30 Scratchers ticket offered by the Missouri Lottery. Laikert is the first Missouri Lottery player to claim one of a dozen $1 million second-tier prizes in the game, which also offers three $10 million top prizes.

Players can enter both Missouri Lottery $30 Scratchers tickets, “$300 Million Cash Explosion” and “$300,000,000 Golden Ticket,” into their My Lottery Players Club account through the Missouri Lottery app or at MOLottery.com for entry into the “Golden Ticket Cash Explosion” second-chance promotion for chances to win up to $1 million.
