Routine Packs a $50,000 Punch in Parkville

When Carl Coleman of Parkville is winding down at the end of the day, he likes to play a Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket.

“I usually play one a day. It’s easy entertainment for me,” said Coleman.

When Coleman visited Please Stop, 7500 N.W. River Park Drive in Parkville, to purchase a couple days’-worth of tickets for his daily leisure activity, he noticed a couple of details on his tickets.

“I had $20 in winners from another store. Those tickets (numbers) were 37 and 38. I turned those in for more tickets, and two of them were number 37 and 38,” recalled Coleman.

Coincidence aside, Coleman played one ticket, “Crossword Multiplier,” later that night.  On crossword-themed tickets, players win prizes by matching their individual numbers with complete words on the ticket’s play area – the more complete words matched, the more they win.

One by one, with every word he matched, the Parkville resident slowly realized how much his ticket was worth, saying he was in disbelief when he counted 11 complete words, worth a $50,000 top prize.

While claiming his prize at the Lottery’s Kansas City office on April 4, the Parkville resident said he’s looking forward to paying off his truck, in addition to fulfilling a goal for his two children.

“I have two young daughters who have been saving up money to go to Disney World. I think I’ll help them out and take them later this year,” said Coleman.
Introduced on Jan. 22, “Crossword Multiplier” is a $3 crossword-themed ticket with more than $7 million in total prizes remaining. Coleman claimed one of eight $50,000 top prizes available in the game.
