Independence Man Adds One More 'Blessing'

Raymond Jimenez already considered himself one very “blessed” man. In the last three years he has married, adopted his children and bought a house. And this year, he can now add winning $100,000 to his list of blessings.

Jimenez had dropped his kids off at school one morning and was headed to Hy-Vee to get a coffee and meet up with his wife, Alicia, and a friend. After they all played a few Scratchers tickets together and left, Jimenez decided to play a few more of the “50X The Cash” Scratchers tickets.

“I asked for one more for the road,” the Independence resident said. “I hit the 20X and thought I had won $100. Then, I started to scratch and saw $25,000. I lost my breath!”

Jimenez excitedly showed the clerk, exclaiming “I think I won $25,000!” But he had forgotten about the 20X symbol.

“She scanned it and said, ‘This isn’t $25,000. This is $100,000,’” laughed Jimenez. “I started hyperventilating.”

He quickly took a picture of his ticket and sent it to his wife.

They are planning to use the prize money for furniture, some updates to their new home and pay off a vehicle. But according to Jimenez the most important thing is being able to visit his family in Puerto Rico.
“I get emotional just thinking about it,” he said. “God is so good.”

Jimenez purchased the winning ticket at Hy-Vee Gas, 1523 E. 23rd Street S., in Independence.

50X The Cash” is a $10 Scratchers ticket with a top prize of $1 million. More than $9 million in prizes remain in the game, including one top prize and five more $100,000 prizes.
