The play action on many Scratchers games involves comparing “your numbers” to the “winning numbers” and searching for at least one matching set. But imagine scratching your way through a ticket and finding that every single number is a match. That’s how it played out in St. James when Michael Gibbs bought a “$1,000,000 Fortune” Scratchers ticket. In a matter of seconds, the Salem resident stacked up a series of $500 wins that led him to Lottery headquarters to claim a $10,000 prize.

“They just kept adding up all the way down. Every number on there matched, and every one was $500,” Gibbs said. “I’m still shaking now. It was pretty awesome.”

Gibbs said he likes to buy an occasional Scratchers ticket on his way to work. He had won $100 on the same game a week earlier and decided to give it another try at the same retail location – On the Run, 101 Highway B, in St James.

“I’m going to pay off my truck, for sure, and I’m planning a trip to San Antonio with my dad,” he shared, when asked about plans for his winnings. “And I’ll just enjoy it. I might have a cookout for the guys I work with, too.”

The “$1,000,000 Fortune” ticket went on sale July 31, 2017. The game has more than $20.8 million in remaining prizes, including two top prizes of $1 million and seven prizes of $100,000.

Remaining prizes for all Missouri Lottery Scratchers tickets can be viewed here, as well as on the Lottery’s mobile app. Most Scratchers can also be scanned on the app to determine if a ticket is a winner.

In the most recent fiscal year, players in Phelps County, where the winning ticket was purchased, won more than $6.7 million in Missouri Lottery prizes. An additional $1.4 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
