A Creve Coeur business owner “found” an additional $50,000 to help pay her son’s upcoming college costs after playing the Missouri Lottery’s SHOW ME 5 Paydown game on May 7.   Deborah Mitchell, 43, owner of D.J.’s Package Liquor in Creve Coeur, won the game’s top prize by matching all five numbers she Quick Picked on a ticket she purchased at Schnucks Market, 12756 Olive St. Road in St. Louis.

“I thought the ticket was from our store, and I thought it was only $5,000,” she said.

Mitchell said she plans to use the prize money to help her son, who just graduated from high school, pay for college and medical school.

To date, 54 players have matched all five numbers drawn to win $50,000 tax paid in SHOW ME 5 Paydown since the game began Nov. 6, 2000.

*  The Missouri Lottery will pay 27 percent federal and 4 percent state withholding taxes for the top prize based on it’s value.  Depending on personal income, winners may owe additional taxes for the prize, or they may be entitled to a refund.  Total value of the top prize is $72,463.76.  After withholding, winners will receive $50,000.  If more than 14 players match the five winning numbers in a single drawing, $1 million will be divided equally among the number of winning tickets.
