Marriage, House, Tacos and $1 Million for Hollister Couple

Working the night shift as a nurse can be an adjustment, especially when it comes to eating and sleeping schedules. However, buying a home, getting married, working the night shift and becoming a Missouri Lottery millionaire can arguably be an even bigger adjustment.

“I normally eat dinner around 2 a.m.,” said Lexie Sheppard of Hollister, who had the night off on Oct. 16. “I really wanted some tacos, but we didn’t have all the stuff, so I went to the gas station to get some chips.”

Sheppard drove to Kum & Go, 195 Gage Drive in Hollister, to purchase tortilla chips, and remembered to bring a winning $10 Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket with her to redeem.

“I put the ticket on the counter, and I just picked a random $10 ticket,” recalled Sheppard, who ended up with a “$1,000,000 Fortune” ticket.

After returning home and finally eating her long-awaited tacos, Sheppard played her Scratchers ticket and matched one number.

“I had scratched what looked like $1,000, which I was excited about, but noticed it looked a little lopsided,” said Sheppard, who revealed a $1 million top prize after fully uncovering the play area.

“It was just me and my dog, who didn’t seem too excited. I really just wanted some tacos, but I’ll take the casual $1 million, too,” joked Sheppard.

Sheppard called her husband, who also works at night, to share their life-changing news. The couple, who were recently married, plan to use their $1 million prize to make some upgrades to their newly purchased house and continue their education.

“We both want to go back to school to finish our doctorates in nursing,” said the new millionaire.

A $10 Scratchers ticket introduced on July 31, “$1,000,000 Fortune” currently has more than $27 million in total remaining prizes ranging from $10 to $1 million. Sheppard claimed the first of three $1 million top prizes in the game.
