St. Louis Resident Reaps Benefits of 'Second-Chance' Promotion

When Karen Connelly of St. Louis arrived home late after a long day of work on Dec. 20, 2015, opening her mail was the last thing on her mind.

“I was exhausted, with a lot on my mind,” said Connelly. “I retrieved my mail and in it was a large manila envelope from Jefferson City.”

Connelly initially decided to wait until the next morning to open the envelope, fearing it contained information for the upcoming tax season. She ultimately chose to “face the music” and open the envelope that night.

“I about fell over dead. I read everything and looked on the website and, sure enough, there was my name in the ‘Grand Prize’ spot,” exclaimed Connelly, who had been drawn as the second “World-Class Retreat” winner in the Lottery’s 2015 “Second Chance of a Lifetime: Holiday Chill Out” promotion.

“Very, very cool Christmas gift, that’s for sure,” said the St. Louis resident.

Given the option of five “world-class” destination retreats, Connelly decided to travel to Yosemite National Park with her son, daughter-in-law, grandson and a family friend.

“I had always wanted to go to Yosemite, as I had not been there, and love our National Parks. That was an easy choice,” said Connelly, who took her trip this past July.

While at Yosemite National Park, Connelly and her group enjoyed excursions to El Capitan, Half Dome, June Lake and Mono Lake.

“We went into Yosemite many days, with different destinations in mind for each. Waterfalls, giant trees, hikes, etc.,” said Connelly. “We also happened on a wonderful local festival. There was great food, a live band and dancing; a great thing to be able to take part in.”

Towards the end of their trip, the group was also able to travel to Lake Tahoe, a top U.S. travel destination for Connelly.

Connelly won her once-in-a-lifetime trip by entering eligible tickets into the 2015 “Second Chance of a Lifetime: Holiday Chill Out” through her My Lottery Players Club account. The taxes-paid trip included round trip airfare, ground transportation, lodging and spending money.
Beginning Oct. 16, Lottery players can enter eligible tickets into the “Second Chance of a Lifetime: Cruise into the Holidays” promotion, which will award winners their choice of trips to France, Alaska and the Caribbean, among other trip, merchandise and cash prize options.
