After uncovering a $100,000 prize, an Eldon resident and his wife can now pay off their house and have one less monthly bill.
Harry Light bought a “$100,000 Extra Crossword” Scratchers ticket on Aug. 23 at Giers Bass Pro, 105 W. 4th St., in Eldon. He said he enjoys playing Scratchers games of all kinds and “never really plans” on what game he is going to get until he is ready to buy.

“I was sitting in my pickup truck when I scratched it off,” said Light. “I thought I made a mistake when I counted the words. So, I went back in the store and check it on the machine.”

Light scanned his ticket three times before believing what he saw: His ticket was a $100,000 winner. That’s when the cashier came over and asked him what was wrong.

“When I told her, she was more excited than I was,” said Light. “I was just standing there shaking.”

He quickly called his wife who was in Springfield with their daughter. She thought he was joking and didn’t believe his story.

“Then my daughter called me and asked, ‘What did you tell mom?’ I said, ‘That I won $100,000.’ She said, ‘Yep, that’s what she said you said, too.’ I guess she wanted to verify what I told my wife,” laughed Light.
$100,000 Extra Crossword” is a $5 that was introduced June 12. There are more than $9 million in remaining prizes, including three $100,000 top prizes.
