Imperial Woman Happy to Split Jackpot

A newly formed interest in the Missouri Lottery culminated in receiving half of a $286,000 Show Me Cash jackpot for an Imperial woman.

“It’s really weird. Just in the last six weeks, I started randomly buying Scratchers,” said Laura Reim. “On Monday, I went to get a coffee before work and saw the $3 million Lotto jackpot. I thought my chances wouldn’t be as good on that, so I got a Show Me Cash.”

Reim, who purchased her Quick Pick ticket from Express Mart, 2865 Seckman Road in Imperial, said that she kept the ticket in her car until she remembered to check her numbers the following day.

“I was at a stop light, and I saw that I won, so I pulled over to call my husband who didn’t believe me,” said Reim. “He kept saying, ‘Don’t be crazy. You didn’t win, Laura; just get home.’”

Unsatisfied with her husband’s skepticism, Reim called her sister.

“I told her to get on the website, that I would read her my numbers, and she would tell me if they matched. So I read them, and she screamed, ‘You just won the freaking Lottery!’”

Reim said that once she got home, her husband analyzed the ticket for 20 minutes before conceding that she had won a Show Me Cash jackpot.

In fact, Reim was one of two Missouri Lottery players that matched all five numbers drawn in the Aug. 8 drawing, both taking home $143,000. Those numbers were: 16, 25, 31, 37 and 38.

“You think it’s going to happen to someone else. You never think it’s going to be you that wins the Lottery,” said Reim. “This will help us breathe easier, but it’s by no means life-changing. I was making dinner the same night and at work the next morning.”

Reim and her husband will soon be celebrating their 10-year wedding anniversary, and they hope to take a small getaway to celebrate with the prize. House updates, bill payments and financial investments are also on the list of planned expenditures.

Show Me Cash is a daily in-state Draw Game with jackpots starting at $50,000 that grow until someone wins. Since sales for the Draw Game began in 2008, 471 Missouri Lottery players have won jackpots, with an average jackpot of more than $155,000.
