Running Late Leads to $50,000 Prize

Stephen Iliff of Sweet Springs was running late to work on Saturday, Aug. 12. But a quick bathroom stop would soon result in an extra $50,000 in his pocket.

“I bought three tickets and scratched them in my truck,” said Iliff. “When it showed $50,000, I thought, ‘Something is wrong.’”

Iliff recently started a new business and works alongside his father-in-law. He had him double check his “Pay Lines” Scratchers ticket before he called his wife with the good news.
“That’s actually what I want to do with the money,” said Iliff.  “I want to put it back into my new company. This will really help.

“It was weird just the way everything worked out,” he said. “If I wouldn’t have been running behind, I wouldn’t have been at Casey’s and bought that ticket.”

Iliff purchased his winning “Pay Lines” Scratchers ticket at Casey’s General Store, 101 N. Main St., in Concordia.

Pay Lines” is a $3 game that started June 26. It has more than $3.8 million in remaining prizes, including two more $50,000 top prizes.
