Half of $286,000 Jackpot Won in St. Mary

While claiming his $143,000 prize at the Missouri Lottery’s St. Louis office, Dennis Buehre teased that he always buys Quick Pick tickets, because he’s too lazy to fill out a playslip to choose his own numbers. It turned out to be a good choice for the retiree, who ended up with one of two tickets that matched all five numbers drawn in the Aug. 8 Show Me Cash drawing.

Buehre purchased his winning ticket at Our Place Convenience and Gas, 24522 U.S. Highway 61, in St. Mary. He splits the $286,000 jackpot prize with a player in Imperial, who bought a ticket with the same set of numbers:  16, 25, 31, 37 and 38.

The St. Mary resident, who plays Show Me Cash daily, found out his recent ticket was a winner while out for the lunch the next day.

“I was up at this restaurant in Ste. Genevieve, and I checked it on one of [those] little machines,” he explained. “It said to check with the Lottery office or something like that.”

Buehre then asked an employee to scan the ticket on the Lottery terminal to see if she could find out how much he’d won.

“She said, ‘Oh, my God. You won $143… oh, no, no… You won $143,000!’”
He then asked her to print off a report of the winning numbers, and the pair “sat there and matched the numbers. Every one of them was the same.”

“I didn’t know what to say,” he said. “It surprised me, I’ll tell you.”

Show Me Cash is a $1 daily Draw Game with a jackpot that starts at $50,000 and grows until someone wins. So far in 2017, there have been 32 winning jackpot tickets with an average prize of more than $170,000. Show Me Cash jackpot prizes that have yet to be claimed can viewed at MOLottery.com.
