Washington Man's Prayers Answered with $50,000 Prize

Jackpot fever got the attention of Richard Seyer, and the result was a $50,000 Missouri Lottery Powerball prize. The Washington resident found out about his good fortune on Aug. 6, while out to lunch with his girlfriend.

“We finished up eating, and I went to the gas station next door to have my tickets checked,” said Seyer. “The machine said ‘Claim At Lottery,’ so I had the clerk look at it, and she told me I won $50,000. I came back outside and told my girlfriend, ‘Want to go on a trip?’”

While claiming his prize on Aug. 7, the Washington resident said that he typically likes to sample many of the games the Lottery has to offer, including Powerball, Show Me Cash, Lotto and Scratchers tickets.

Recently, the auto body mechanic has also been turning to a higher being for assistance.

“I’ve been praying to God to help with some finances recently. I was expecting I would get more work, but nothing like this,” said Seyer, who completes odds and ends contract work on the side.

While Seyer enjoys playing many of the Lottery’s game offerings for a chance to win, he also encourages his friends to join in, but only if their individual means allow.

“I always tell people that they have a zero chance of winning if they don’t play, but that they don’t need to be playing if the money needs to go towards rent or something else,” divulged Seyer.

The winner hopes to treat his children to a beach-side vacation and plans to become debt-free with his $50,000 prize.

Seyer purchased his winning Powerball ticket for the Aug. 5 drawing from Abel’s Quik Shop, 645 N. Service Road, in Wright City. He used Quick Pick to correctly match four of the five white-ball numbers and the Powerball number in the drawing, which were: 11, 21, 28, 33 and 45 with a Powerball of 11.

Powerball is a $2 per play multi-state Draw Game that features jackpots starting at $40 million that have reached as high as $1.5 billion. The Powerball jackpot for the Wednesday, August 16, drawing stands at an estimated $430 million. It only takes one ticket to win; please play responsibly.
