Independence Man Splits $100,000 Prize With Mother

Superstition led Leonard Krider to purchasing a “High Roller” Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket on Aug. 2.

“I like my tickets to come from the middle of the pack, typically between 26 and 33,” said Krider, explaining that he likes to ask his Lottery retailers what numbers the $5 tickets are on. “This one was number 31.”

While the location of winning tickets in ticket packs are random and unknown to anyone, including the Lottery, ticket number 31 proved to be the lucky ticket for Krider.

The Independence resident uncovered the $100,000 prize soon after purchasing the $5 “High Roller” ticket at QuikTrip, 4740 S. Arrowhead Drive, in Independence. Krider was quick to share the news of his win with his mother, Juanita.

“I laid it (the ticket) down in front of her and she thought it was $5,000 winner. I said, ‘You better keep adding,’” recalled Krider.

Splitting the six-figure prize with his mother was an easy choice for Krider.

“She’s been good to me. Why not share it?”

The mother and son both plan to save their respective shares of the $100,000 prize.
Introduced on July 31, “High Roller” is the newest $5 Scratchers game offered by the Missouri Lottery. A list of all remaining prize amounts for each Scratchers ticket can be found at MOLottery.com.
