$50,000 Prize Ushers In Sedalia Home Repairs

Routine purchases of two Missouri Lottery Draw Games and a $50,000 prize have a Sedalia couple planning their next honey-do list. Rhonda Brookman, accompanied by her husband, Douglas, claimed the June 21 Powerball prize at the Lottery’s Kansas City office on July 3.

“We like to play Powerball and Mega Millions whenever we are at the store and think about it. We try to do it a couple times a week,” said Brookman, who purchased her winning Powerball ticket from Casey’s General Store, 716 W. 16th St., in Sedalia.

When purchasing her next set of tickets, Brookman has her past tickets checked by one of the Casey’s General Store clerks, who typically pass along wishes of good fortune.

“The clerks always like to joke with me and say, ‘This is going to be the lucky one.’ This time, they scanned the ticket and the look on their faces told me that this one was different,” said Brookman.

The Sedalia resident returned home to share the news with her husband.

“It was about 5:30 last Friday before I got to him. Since we had to wait until (Monday) to claim it, he hid the ticket so I would stop looking at it,” laughed Brookman.

The couple plan to replace the roof of their home and repair their fence with the $50,000 prize.

Brookman used Quick Pick to match four of the five white-ball numbers and the Powerball number drawn in the June 21 drawing, which were: 14, 46, 61, 65 and 68 with a Powerball of 13.

Powerball is a $2 per play multi-state Draw Game that features jackpots starting at $40 million. Powerball drawings are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m. Research all current and past winning numbers at MOLottery.com.
