Side of $1 Million for Aurora Family

“I’m still kind of in shock,” said Sharita Bell, after a Missouri Lottery office in Springfield office confirmed she held a $1 million Scratchers ticket on June 16.

Bell and her family recently moved to Aurora from Oklahoma in February of this year, after being asked to manage a convenience store. But it didn’t take them long to become a part of the community and develop their own family routine.

“We do our normal thing after I get off work and before my husband goes to work,” said Bell. “We go down to Price Cutter, and my son, who is 2, knows everybody and goes in for his fix of macaroni and cheese.”

On the way out of Price Cutter, Bell and her husband enjoy purchasing a few Scratchers tickets to play at home. Most of the time, she plays a $3 or $5 Scratchers ticket, but this time, her husband gave her a little encouragement to try something big.

“My husband said you should get one today,” said Bell, referring to the $30 Scratchers game “$300,000,000 Golden Ticket.”

“I was sitting there scratching it, and I asked him, ‘What are these gold coins for?’ And he said, ‘It probably means you won $10 or $20,’” said Bell. “I scratched it all off and said, ‘I won a million dollars.’ I handed him the ticket, and I think he was more shocked than I was.”

Bell immediately signed the back of the ticket and headed to the Lottery office with her family. During the drive, they talked about some plans for their big prize.

“We are renting a house right now. It would be nice to buy a house and a little land right outside of town. We really like it here and will be here a little while,” said the Aurora resident. “We also want to plan a vacation with our older son and his fiancée to Yellowstone – one big family vacation. It’s getting real and really exciting.”

Bell purchased her winning Scratchers ticket at Price Cutter, 708 S. Elliott Ave., in Aurora.

$300,000,000 Golden Ticket” is a $30 Scratchers game that began on Jan. 25, 2016. With more than $300 million in prizes, it is the Lottery’s biggest game ever, including top prizes of $10 million.
