Big Powerball Jackpot to Credit for $50,000 Win

The high Powerball jackpot of $375 million for the June 7 drawing served as a great reminder to pick up a ticket for one Grover resident. Robert Sinovcic won $50,000 after his ticket matched four white-ball numbers and the Powerball number.

“I didn’t find out until that Saturday afternoon,” said Sinovcic, who plays Powerball on occasion. “I was at the store buying groceries, and I knew the new drawing would be Saturday evening. I thought, ‘Oh, what the heck; I’ll check the two tickets in my wallet.’ When I checked them, one said, ‘See Lottery’ or something like that. So I took it to the guy behind the service desk, and he said, ‘Wow, you won big!’”

Sinovcic said he didn’t jump for joy right away after the clerk showed him he had won $50,000. He was completely stunned.

“I drove home, and I went to get out of car with it still running. Then I open and closed the garage door and had to open it again,” laughed Sinovcic. “I told my wife and she said, ‘You’re kidding?’ and then something to the effect of ‘Are you sure they weren’t kidding you?’’’

Sinovcic and his wife plan to give their two grown daughters and five grandkids some money for the summer. But they have no immediate plans for their rest of their prize money.

“It still hasn’t settled in, to tell you the truth,” said Sinovcic.

Sinovcic purchased his Powerball ticket at Schnucks, 16580 Manchester Road, in Wildwood. He said the young man who checked his ticket there reminded him to sign the back of his ticket immediately.

Powerball is a $2 per play multi-state Draw Game that features jackpots starting at $40 million. Powerball drawings are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m. Research all current and past winning numbers at MOLottery.com.
