St. Louis Resident Hyper-Ventilates Over $55,558 Prize

Winning the Missouri Lottery can be an exciting and shocking experience. After winning a $55,558 top prize on a “Bingo Plus” Scratchers ticket, Richard and Malinda Samuelson know the feeling firsthand.

Malinda purchased three of the bingo-style tickets at United Mart, 9653 St. Charles Rock Road, in Breckenridge Hills.

“I was there to get a few things, but I always have to get a ticket,” said Malinda, while claiming the prize on June 12.

The St. Louis resident said she enjoys playing Scratchers tickets, but bingo and crossword themed tickets are a rare choice.

“You know, that was kind of a whim. I usually just get the easy ones because the (bingo) tickets seem a little more difficult,” explained Malinda. “I’ve played them in the past, they’re just not my typical game.”

Malinda was at home when she realized she had won a large prize on one of her “Bingo Plus” tickets.

“I was freaking out. I told Richard that I have to go to the gas station, and I need to get this checked. I thought I had won $3,000, and I was already hyper-ventilating,” laughed Malinda.

“When I took it to the gas station, (the clerk) said, ‘No, it says $55,558.’ I had to check it myself, then I really started hyper-ventilating. I’m glad I had the weekend to think about it.”

The couple, who have previously won a few prizes ranging from $1,000 to $2,500, plan to devote the $55,558 top prize towards bills and hopefully a newer vehicle.
