Gut Feeling Leads to $10,000 Scratchers Win

You don’t have to win a million-dollar jackpot to feel lucky with the Missouri Lottery. Just ask West Plains resident Delbert Romans, who won $10,000 on a “50X The Cash” Scratchers ticket last week.

“I’ve never won anything this big before in my life, ever,” he said. “I’ve waited my whole life to win this.”

Romans said he “had a feeling” about the ticket he purchased at Crossroads Convenience, 1808 W. Broadway, in West Plains. After playing a few other tickets – scratching them outside the store and discovering they weren’t winners – he just couldn’t shake a gut feeling that he should try again.

“I went back in because I just had this nagging feeling,” he shared. “My stomach was just kind of twirling, so I went back in and bought another ‘50X (The Cash).’”

Though he was still “a little bit disbelieving,” Romans had already made plans for his winnings by the time he claimed his prize at the Lottery’s Springfield office the next day.

“I have a couple of loans to pay off, and I need new tires for my truck,” he said. “Hopefully, I can hang on to $1,000 or $1,500, and then when I need some money, I can just dip into it. There’s always something that comes up and you need something.”

“50X The Cash” is a $10 game that officially went on sale Dec. 27. More than $21.4 million in prizes remain, including two top prizes of $1 million and nine prizes of $100,000.

In the most recent fiscal year, players in Howell County won more than $5.5 million in Missouri Lottery prizes. An additional $1.2 million from Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county, and $598,000 was paid to local businesses in the form of retailer incentives.
