On May 11, Gerald Rippee was at his daughter’s house, getting ready to play the Nintendo with family, when hunger struck. Rippee decided to run to the local Food Mart and grab a few snacks. Little did he know, he would be returning with three snacks and $100,000.

“I told my daughter I would be right back,” said the Seymour resident. “I decided to buy a few $5 Scratchers tickets. I won $5 on one, so I came back in and bought another.”

After a few rounds of this, Rippee decided to try a $10 and $20 Scratchers ticket.

“The $10 ticket wasn’t a winner, so I started scratching the $20 ticket,” said Rippee, talking about the “$4 Million Spectacular” Scratchers game launched in March. “I only matched one number, number 13. I couldn’t believe it. It showed $100,000.”

Rippee immediately ran back into the store to show the clerks who sold him the ticket. He recalled one of the cashiers thinking he had only won $1,000 before she saw the winning ticket.

“The whole town of Seymour knows now,” said a laughing Rippee. “People have come up to me to tell me ‘Congratulations,’ and I don’t even know who they were.”

Rippee is thinking about buying a new home and maybe a four-wheeler to go along with the new place.

Rippee purchased his winning ticket at Food Mart, W. 219 Clinton Ave., in Seymour on May 11. He then claimed his prize at the Lottery’s Springfield office on May 15.

$4 Million Spectacular” is a $20 game that was released on March 27. It offers two top prizes of $4 million and over $50 million in total prizes.
