A Lawson accountant added $50,000 to his balance sheet after matching four white-ball numbers and the Powerball number drawn in the May 6 Powerball drawing. Michael Ashenfelter, 75, said he played the same set of numbers for many years. The winning numbers were 11, 21, 31, 41, 59, and the Powerball number was 21. Ashenfelter had a unique way of picking his numbers.

“I wrote all the numbers on lima beans, put them in a coffee can, and pulled out my numbers,” he said in all seriousness. “I’ve played those same numbers twice a week for seven years.”

Ashenfelter bought his winning ticket at Judy’s Place, 220 W. Sixth St., in Lawson.

“It’s going into my retirement fund,” he said, when asked about his plans for prize. “I was also planning a trip to California, and this will make it a lot easier.”

Powerball is a $2 per play multi-state Draw Game that features jackpots starting at $40 million. Powerball drawings are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m. This Wednesday’s Powerball jackpot is estimated at $204 million. Research all current and past winning numbers at MOLottery.com.
