$3.5 Million Prize Expires, Money to Benefit Education

A $3.5 million Lotto prize sold at Hermann Fuel Mart for the Nov. 12, 2016, drawing expired at midnight last night. The prize money, like other unclaimed prizes, will be sent to the Lottery Proceeds Fund to benefit public education.

“It’s unfortunate the winner never checked the ticket to discover the win,” said May Scheve Reardon, executive director of the Missouri Lottery. “That is why we always encourage players to sign the back of their tickets, keep them in a safe place and check them after the drawing.

“The good news is there is still a winner – public education,” Reardon added.

The Lotto jackpot prize was the third prize worth $1 million or more to expire since the Missouri Lottery started in 1986. The first big prize to expire was a Lotto jackpot worth $1.7 million, sold at Git-N-Go, 2808 S. Campbell in Springfield, for the Feb. 20, 1999, drawing. A Powerball Match 5 prize worth $1 million sold for the April 11, 2015, drawing at Kum & Go, 16140 Highway 59 in Neosho, also expired.

Two other large prizes are scheduled to expire in the next few days. They are:
