$100,000 Prize Adds Kick to Morning Routine

Steven Clodfelter’s Thursday morning was business as usual until he won a $100,000 prize on a Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket.

“I got (the ticket) at a 7-Eleven on my way into work. I just stopped to get some energy drinks and sunflower seeds and bought a ticket on the side,” said Clodfelter, 33, who purchased his “50X The Cash” Scratchers ticket on May 4 from 7-Eleven, 1701 Independence Ave., in Kansas City.

“I was just going with my gut, I guess,” said Clodfelter when asked what led him to pick the “50X The Cash” ticket. “I don’t think I’ve played this ticket before. I usually get one of the $20 or $30 tickets if I’m getting a Scratchers ticket, but I guess I didn’t want to drop that money today.”

The Kansas City resident would later uncover a “50X” symbol with a $2,000 prize on the ticket while at work. After doing some quick math and going through a phase of disbelief, Clodfelter left work to present the ticket at the Lottery’s Kansas City office.

Clodfelter is in the midst of a home renovation, and plans to devote the bulk of his prize towards those expenses, a new roof and bills.
Introduced on Dec. 27, 2016, “50X The Cash” is a $10 Scratchers game featuring prizes ranging from $10 to $1 million. Clodfelter claimed one of 16 $100,000 second-tier prizes, with more than $16 million in total prizes remaining in the game.
