Lucky Numbers Pay Out in Manchester

As an employee at Debz Corner in Manchester, Carla Cochran routinely sees her customers enjoying Missouri Lottery Club Keno drawings. The tables were turned in a big way, however, when Cochran herself purchased an 8-spot ticket on April 22 and landed a prize of $65,907.

With Club Keno, 20 numbers are randomly drawn every four minutes, and players choose how many “spots” (numbers) they wish to play. They can also take advantage of extra play options – such as the Bulls-Eye, Double Bulls-Eye or Multiplier features – to increase their winnings.

“I played the 7s all the way straight down,” Cochran said, explaining that she played the numbers 7, 17, 27, 37, 47, 57, 67 and 77. “I always play the same numbers, and I usually play the Double Bulls-Eye.”

Because one of her numbers was also one of the Bulls-Eye numbers drawn, Cochran turned a $10,000 win into a $50,000 win. But it didn’t end there. Due to a free bonus feature offered only with 6-, 7- and 8-spot games, players who match all the numbers on their ticket also automatically win an added rolling jackpot prize. In this case, it ramped up Cochran’s winnings even more, bumping the total prize amount to $65,907.

News of her win was delivered quickly as an astute customer noticed the numbers displayed on the game monitor.

“[They] said, ‘All the 7s just hit.’ I said, ‘How many?’ and they said, ‘All of them!’ And I said, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me!’”

Cochran claimed her prize at the Lottery’s St. Louis office the following Monday, with plans to take her son on an Australian vacation.

Because retailers who selling winning tickets worth $10,000 or more receive a selling bonus, Debz Corner, 685 Big Bend Road, received a bonus of 1 percent of the prize amount.

In the most recent fiscal year, players in St. Louis County won more than $121 million in Missouri Lottery prizes. An additional $29.4 million from Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county, and $14.3 million was paid in retailer incentives.
