Fred Wilson was picking up a prescription for his wife, Teresa, when he purchased a Missouri Lottery Powerball ticket. When Teresa checked the ticket the day after the April 8 drawing, they discovered their bank account was suddenly $50,000 healthier. They won by matching four white-ball numbers and the Powerball. The winning numbers in the April 8 drawing were 23, 36, 51, 53, 60, and the Powerball was 15.
“She was checking the ticket and her jaw just dropped. Then she looked up at me kind of funny,” Wilson explained. “I thought I’d done something wrong.”
Wilson said when his wife understood what had happened, all she could say was, “Oh, my God!”
The retired General Motors worker from Kansas City purchased their winning Powerball ticket at Hy-Vee, 9400 E. 350 Highway, in Raytown.
Wilson, 70, says they will probably put most of the winnings in a certificate of deposit.
“I also have my eye on a new metal detector,” Wilson chuckled.
Powerball is a $2 per play multi-state Draw Game that features jackpots starting at $40 million. Powerball drawings are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m. Research all current and past winning numbers at MOLottery.com.
