Iris Nanney and her friend have been playing the Missouri Lottery “Daily Crossword” Scratchers ticket for a few months. On the morning of March 25, Nanney found one of the $100,000 top prizes.

“I scratched the barcode off,” said the Perkins resident. “The cashier scanned it and said, ‘Oh, my gosh.’ I looked and said, ‘Oh, my gosh - we are rich!’ I couldn’t catch my breath all day Saturday.”

Nanney, 32, who has never won more than $200 on a Scratchers ticket, told her parents she now had the means to pay them back what she owed them, but they could not understand how. That is when she told them she won $100,000 on the “Daily Crossword” Scratchers ticket.

“They didn’t believe me, so I took my mom and my dad to another gas station to show them,” said Nanney.

Nanney has big plans for her winnings. She wants to pay off the loan from her parents, buy a camper and help the people who have been there for her.

“I want to take $1,000 and cash it into $10 bills. Then every time I see a random act of kindness, I’m going to give them $10,” said Nanney. “This is life-changing for me.”

Nanney purchased her winning Scratchers ticket at Hucks Food Store, 353 Kingshighway St., in Cape Girardeau. This store sold more than $1 million in Lottery products in 2016.

Daily Crossword” is a $5 Scratchers ticket that started Oct. 12, 2016. It offers two crossword puzzles, a Bonus Word Prize and cash prizes up to $100,000.
