Wheatland Man Pays It Forward with Lottery Win

A Missouri Lottery “Daily Crossword” Scratchers ticket paved the way for a Wheatland resident to share some of his good fortune with others. After winning $10,000 on the ticket he purchased at Trading Post, Highway 254 in Hermitage, Larry Decavelle has thoughts of giving on his mind.

“I already know what I’m going to do with it,” he said, when asked about plans for his prize money. “I’m donating $2,000 to our church, and then I’m going to help two unfortunate families at our church with $500 to each family. They’re going through some hard times.”

A retiree, Decavelle shared that the only Scratchers games he buys are crossword-themed tickets.

“It takes about five minutes to play,” he explained. “I just enjoy playing the crossword.”

“Daily Crossword” began on Oct. 12, 2016. The $5 game still has more than $4.6 million in remaining prizes, including a top prize of $100,000.

In the most recent fiscal year, players in Hickory County won more than $1.1 million in Missouri Lottery prizes.
