LOTTERY SENDS $16.9 MILLION TO EDUCATION

The Missouri Lottery today transferred $16.9 million to the Lottery Proceeds Fund for public education.  Today’s monthly proceeds transfer of $16,907,646 is based on ticket sales in March.  It brings the total provided to public education in fiscal year 2003 to more than $163 million and the total amount of proceeds generated by the Lottery since it began in 1986 to nearly $2 billion.

Approximately 27.5 cents of every dollar spent playing the Lottery goes to public education programs in Missouri.   The Missouri Lottery’s contribution to public education is about 3 percent of education’s total annual funding.

Each year, the Legislature appropriates Lottery proceeds to various education programs.   For a complete list of education programs funded, visit the Lottery’s Web site at www.molottery.com.
