A Postosi security guard discovered he was $100,000 richer when he uncovered the top prize on a Missouri Lottery “$100,000 Jackpot” Scratchers ticket on March 5. Jim Wilkerson, 63, was on a break from his rounds when he decided to scratch the ticket he purchased earlier that day from P & L Grocery, Highway 8 West, in Potosi.

“I started scratching and thought I’d won maybe $5. I scratched some more, and then I thought it was just $10,” he explained. “When I was done, it was $100,000. I had to just finish out my shift.”

Wilkerson took his winning ticket back to the store where he purchased it to show it to the clerk.

“The people at the store couldn’t believe that I had won,” he snickered.

Wilkerson was joined by Larry Harmon, who is his friend and a co-owner of P & L Grocery, when he claimed his ticket at the St. Louis Lottery office on March 8.

Wilkerson says he has no plans for his windfall.

“I can’t think of one thing that I need,” Wilkerson said.

"$100,000 Jackpot” is a $5 ticket that began Feb. 27 and has two sides to play with top prizes of $100,000.
