Owensville Woman Finds First $20,000 Scratchers Prize

Nancy Gann of Owensville was all smiles when she came to Lottery Headquarters in Jefferson City to claim her $20,000 prize. Gann had only purchased the new “$100,000 Jackpot” Scratchers ticket the day before on March 1 at MotoMart, 413 E. Lincoln Ave., in Owensville. She was eager to get that check in hand.

“This never happens to me. I had even thought about giving up Scratchers for lent. Thank God, and I mean that seriously,” laughed Gann. “$20,000 is a lot to me. I don’t know what I’d do if I ever won something like the Powerball.”

Gann stops every day at MotoMart to by Scratchers tickets. Her favorite Scratchers game is the “Silver 7s,” but she says she likes to try out the new games when they are released. That’s when she decided to try the “$100,000 Jackpot.”

“I scratched the first number, and it said $5,000,” said Gann. “So I didn’t scratch the rest because I wanted to scan it to make sure what I was seeing was right. She (clerk) scanned it and said ‘Nancy, look at this. It says $20,000!’ I said, ‘That can’t be right.’ Then we both giggled ourselves silly.”

Gann told her husband immediately. Then they started making plans for the money.

“This is going to sound silly,” said Gann. “But I want new carpet, and we will probably plan a weekend getaway. Oh, and pay some bills, too. But carpet is up there on the list.”

$100,000 Jackpot” is a new $5 Scratchers ticket released on Feb. 27 with top prizes of $100,000. Players can also scratch the back for more chances to win.
