Blue Springs Resident Orders Pizza with a Side of $50,000

For Robert Evans of Blue Springs, sometimes pizza and Missouri Lottery tickets go hand-in-hand; especially when they come with a healthy serving of $50,000.

“I bought this ticket when I stopped in Casey’s to get a pizza,” said Evans, recalling his experience winning the Lottery while claiming his $50,000 Powerball prize on Jan. 30.

When purchasing his ticket at Casey’s General Store, 2424 SW 7 Highway in Blue Springs, Evans, 66, used Quick Pick to have the Lottery terminal pick his numbers at random. To win his prize, Evans matched four of the five white-ball numbers and the Powerball in the Jan. 25 drawing, which were: 18, 28, 62, 66, 68 and a Powerball number of 22.

“I checked my ticket on Saturday with one of those ticket checking machines,” continued Evans. “It said, ‘Claim at Lottery Office.’ So I asked the clerk to print me the winning numbers and went home.”

It wasn’t until he was home and looking at how many numbers he had matched that Evans put two and two together to realize he had won $50,000.

While Evans and his wife, Linda, had no immediate ideas on what they would like to do with the prize, the couple were hopeful to do something fun in the near future.

Evans is the 81st Missouri Lottery Powerball player to win a $50,000 prize since a game change in 2015 increased the third-tier prize from $10,000 to $50,000. A $2 per play multi-state Draw Game, Powerball features jackpots starting at $40 million that have grown to $1.5 billion.
