Independence Man Wins After Sticking to a Routine

An Independence resident claimed his $50,000 Powerball prize a few days after the Jan. 28 drawing. Jerry Wynn, 52, is a frequent Missouri Lottery player who likes to be consistent.

“I buy Powerball and Mega Millions tickets before every draw at the same QuikTrip,” said Wynn, who purchased his ticket at the QuikTrip, 4005 S. Little Blue Parkway, in Independence. “If I always park in the same spot and play the same way, I’ll win. That’s what I always tell myself.”

Wynn checks the winning numbers every Sunday and Monday. If he doesn’t win, he says he will go and buy tickets for the following drawings. This time he realized he might have a winner.

“I had four out of five numbers plus the Powerball, and I thought, ‘I think I have something here,’” said Wynn.

He called his wife and shared the good news.

“It’s funny because she always would ask me, ‘Why do we have to go to this QT all the time’ and I would say, ‘Because this is where I am going to win something,’” laughed Wynn.

They plan to use their winnings to pay a few bills, and they will decide later what to do with the rest.

Powerball is a $2 per play multi-state Draw Game that features jackpots starting at $40 million. Powerball drawings are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m.
