ST. JOSEPH WOMAN WINS $100,000 IN POWERBALL

Making room in her wallet prompted one St. Joseph woman to check her Powerball tickets only to find out that one of them was worth $100,000. Alice Michaels, an operations manager for a delivery service, said she checked her tickets with the numbers posted on the Lottery’s Web site and found that one play matched five numbers. She didn’t realize the prize for matching five numbers was $100,000 until a co-worker told her. Michaels said she plans to use her prize money to pay bills and invest for retirement. She also plans to take a friend and her daughter to Walt Disney World for a vacation. Michaels purchased her winning ticket for the Jan. 23 drawing at King Super Store, 3215 S. 22nd St. in St. Joseph. She let the computer randomly generate the numbers on her winning ticket. Those numbers were: 14, 18, 30, 32 and 47. To date, 579 Powerball tickets sold in Missouri have matched all five white-ball numbers drawn to win the $100,000 prize.
