Retailers are Protected

There are many laws in place to safeguard the sale of Lottery tickets, including:

State statutes prevent convicted felons from being licensed as a Lottery retailer;

Retailers can only cash tickets up to $600;

Retailers must pass an extensive background check

The Lottery can and does suspend or revoke a retailer’s license, if statutes or regulations aren’t followed.

Uses a secure printing and distribution process;

Requires a player to complete a claim form and present an ID when validating a prize of more than $600 at a Lottery office;
Uses a secure method of validating winning tickets;Ensures prizes of more than $25,000 undergo additional security clearances before payment is made;
Encourages retailers to deface and discard winning tickets after validation and payment;
Tracks and follows complaints;

The Lottery:

Uses a secure validation process;

Provides secure devices for ticket display, storage and sales;

Has pass code protections on the terminals;

Runs comprehensive terminal activity reports to assist with investigations;

Provides security consultation to corporate accounts;

Tracks all packages shipped to retailers;

Can stop the validation of Scratchers ticket (when stolen);

Can provide individual clerk sign-on numbers, if necessary;

Can suppress terminal activity at a moment’s notice;

Offers cancellations on all Numbers Games tickets, except Powerball and Mega Millions;

Uses terminals that display how much retailers should pay winners;

Has jackpot buyout rules to eliminate someone tying up a terminal processing excessive amounts of tickets;

Offers receipts on Numbers Games tickets to verify to players what a ticket was worth;

Can suppress Autocash feature on terminals.

Can suppress cashing when too many invalid entry attempts are made by a clerk.

A player must be 18 years or older to purchase a Missouri Lottery ticket.
